sin unto death
Saturday, September 26, 2009
Deny/denieth
Some of these two groups who came in brought with them some remnants of this old heresy, and concluded that some moral sins could not be forgiven.
What then is the sin unto death? That is something that is impossible (Nu 14:41, Hb 6:4), 'because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not' (Rm 1:21). Yes these Jews had seen the truth (Mt 21:32) for God had shewed it unto them. When they knew the glory of the incorruptible God (Rm 1:23, Nu 14:22) glorified him not. After having known God in truth, chose not to retain God in their knowledge (Rm 1:28). God, after much longsuffering (2 Pt 3:9), turns them over to a reprobate mind. We read in (Heb 6:4) that one who having tasted the good word of God (truth), turning from it, to renew them again unto repentance seeing they crucify to them self the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame (Hb 6:6, Nu 15:30). In Rm 1:17 we find that in the gospel the (truth) righteousness of God is revealed (faith 1 Jh 5:4, Ep 2:8) from the inward law written upon the hearts of those added unto the church (Ac 2:47). After having this revelation (Mt 16:17), and turning from it, after much long suffering this one is to be withdrawn from (2 Thes 3:6) for they have walked away from the truth (2 Thes 2:10).
In the second epistle of John we find this teaching in verses 7-9; for they are not abiding in the doctrine of Christ, confessing not that 'Jesus is the Christ', having added the necessity of the believer's faith to be a child of God. These scriptures herein refer to them as the antichrist. What is an antichrist, but one who is following after the Devil (the father [Jh 8:44] of liars) in as much as they are opposing what they know to be the truth. In other words, an antichrist is a child of God who has despised the truth (Hb 10:29) and being lifted up in pride turns away from it for his own glory.
There are three times in which the phase 'Jesus is the Christ' is found in the scriptures: (1 Jh 2:22) in the negative, and (Jh 20:31, 1 Jh 5:1) in the positive. In order for one to believe (which out options) that Jesus is the Christ, they must have two creditable witnesses, which establishes this belief involuntary in their minds. The two witnesses are first: the engrafted word (James 1:21, Pet 1:23), called the seed of Christ (1 Jh 3:9), which is administered by the Holy Ghost unto those called unto the wedding of the bridegroom; and second: the preached word in the power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost. In other words, only the called out bride is given these two witnesses (Mt 13:11, 1 Jh 2:20) which enables them to understand the truth. Having received this wonderful blessing, being lifted up in pride can and will turn from it to their own destruction.
We use King David to show how a moral sin can be forgiven. We also have two examples in the Old Testament wherein the sin unto death was committed; Moses failed to sanctify the Lord (Nu 20:12), and King Saul (1 Sam 15:23) willingly disobeyed God because of his pride. We find then that the sin unto death is where one fails to sanctify Christ. He denies the completed work of God as He was in Christ reconciling all of his children unto himself (2 Cor 5:19).
Allen 9:29, Rv 10-1-09
fellowship vs sonship
God the Father would have a continuous presence in the earth through man until time was no more. Above we see that God opened the eyes of Adam for this purpose, that he may see his depravity, thus able to see a higher power than self (17:23). We find this expressed in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews whereby a few men by the grace of God (Gen 6:8), would die in faith (generated by seventh element of the fruit of the spirit), yet not having the promise (11:13, 39). We find no record until Gen 4:26, that after the death of Abel that man was not calling upon God until the birth of Seth's son Enos (235 years after the creation of Adam). This is not saying they did not realize there was a god, only they were not calling upon Him, for the lick their need of him. I am afraid this is also the case we are finding in today society.
Ps 94:17 “Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.” David realized that had God not devised means whereby the banished be not expelled, he would continue to dwell in silence, not having fellowship which his Creator. David having realized this (2 Cor 8:5) “They gave their own selves to the Lord, by the will (Phil 2:16) of God.”
The bride of Christ is made willing by the evidence given, such as the disciples in Acts 2:42 “They continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Fear came upon every soul: and the apostles did many wonders and signs, and all that believed were together.”

1 Peter 1
Vs three ~ Peter then tells us that we as the church bride have been begotten again unto a lively hope. Peter cannot be talking about the forty days from the resurrection unto Pentecost, for until he was endued with power from on high, he was ready to cast aside this whole thing and go fishing, even after Jesus’ resurrection wherein he had already appeared twice before. (Jh 21:1) “This being the third time that Jesus had appeared them.” This begotten unto a lively hope (Jh 21:31) would be on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost came down and administered the new covenant unto those chosen from the beginning (2 Thess 2:13).
Vs five ~ Yes, this remnant is kept by his power, (Isa 1:9; 37:31; Ps 110:3; Phil 2:14). If this were not so, then all of mankind would have been as Sodom (Rom 9:29). God, through his divine purpose, has reserved a remnant that will not bow to Baal. (Rom 11:4) Those so-called, can by the unction of the ‘Holy One’ (1 Jh 2:20) discern the uncertain sound (1 Cor 14:8) of the false doctrine. This is accomplished through the truth that is found in the dealt faith (Rom 12:3) of the new covenant, which is written upon their hearts of those added unto the church daily (Acts 2:47). The last time (Hos 6:2) under consideration here is the gospel day.
Vs six tells us the reason and benefits of this new covenant. Vs seven the testing of this new covenant dealt faith is as the refined gold. Vs eight really gets down to just who is under consideration here. It is not every child of God, but those who, through much tribulation having came through the fire, and now receiving the benefits of their struggles. Those under the first covenant never had this (vs 12) blessing although they pinned it down for those under the second to reap the benefits thereof.
I trust that is some small way I have been able to stir up you pure minds to see the total context of this chapter. Now in Vs thirteen Peter then admonishes these faithful to gird up their minds by the very virtue of the revelation wrought out through the dealt faith of the new covenant. Let us be careful to stay with the context, for in vs 18 lest we attempt to switch over to the eternal side of justification. We must realize that the Son of God in his divinity (2 Cor 5:19) secured eternal security for all the children by the atonement blood, but he, as the son of man, also provided a redemptive covering for his church bride. Without the covering of his robe of righteousness no one could enter into the wedding feast, which takes place in the upper room during the time of the assembly. We see in Num 3:41 where the Levites as the priesthood were redeemed by the firstborn. Yes only the firstborn was spared from death by the Passover blood; likewise it is the firstborn/first fruit that must have the robe of righteousness of their spotless husband, Jesus the man, before they can approach their Husband.
Conclusion: This is the word, (rhema) which by the gospel is preached unto you. The rhema, written word (water) is mixed with the spirit to produce the gospel (Jh 2:7,8, 3:5). This idea is set forth in both Jh 2, 3, 4, & 7. One must first have been added to the church kingdom (Acts 2:47), wherein the Holy Ghost has administered the new covenant, engrafted word of faith (Rom 12:3, Eph 2:8, 1 Jh 5:4) unto them, in order to see the church kingdom (regeneration as taught in Mt 19:28). Having been so added, they must then have the gospel (mixture of water [written word] with the spirit) preached unto them in order to enter into the church kingdom.
Vs 20 “Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by him do believe (n) in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.” This Passover event was foreordained in the mind and purpose of the thrice Holy God before the foundation of the world to take place here in time, for the purpose of giving a covering to the bride of the son of man; it is by him that one believes. This belief is a noun and is established by the two witnesses. All this took place to establish the true faith here in this time world; that is, that God may have glory here in this time world.
Vs 22 “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren.” In order for one (who has been called, added to the church through the administration of the new covenant faith by the Holy Ghost), to sup with her Husband, he must purify himself. He must study his word, (trimming his wick), meditation, and pray (obtain oil), thus preparing himself to enter into the bride’s chamber, when the bridegroom appears (Mt 25:1-13). ~ Continuation of vs 22 “see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible (1 Jh 3:8), by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” The word of God herein is the Logos, not rhema yet it is not capitalized for it is the seed of Christ (engrafted word), not Christ himself. It is the new covenant written upon the heart (1 Jh 3:8, Rom 2:14, Heb 8:10), having been administered by the Holy Ghost unto those called unto the wedding feast (Mt 22:11-14). It is also referred to as the eternal life that abideth in you, being the seed of Christ (not literally Jesus) in you which liveth and abideth forever. This is also the word, seed, eternal life spoken of in 1 Jh 2:25, and 3:9 where the Greek word gennao is use to express the thought of procreation of the father, to regenerate: beget, conceive. In other words, the Father, Jehovah, has given unto the son of man a bride, through the operation of the Holy Ghost, the mother of us all, as She (Gal 4:26) administers the new covenant unto a portion of his people, as defined in Deut 21:17, 32:9. We also find this same thought presented to us in 1 Pet 2:9.

1 Peter 2
Vs 4 “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” Peter understands these lively stones, for he, himself had experienced this when he was begotten unto a lively hope (vs 1:3) on the day of Pentecost. He also informs them of the Pharisees who disallowed, rejected the council against themselves (Lk 7:32) after having seen it (the truth Mt 21:32) repented not that they might (confess) believe him. Yes as stated above these lively stones were called and chosen as building blocks in the Church of the Living God. These as recorded in Malachi as have received the covenant of Levi, that is they are the priesthood (Ma 2:7) wherein the truth is found, that they may offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable unto the Lord. The only way these sacrifices can be acceptable is while robed in the righteous robe of their husband, Jesus Christ.
Vs 6 “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious.” Here the chief cornerstone, elect is none other than Jesus, the husband of the Church of the living God. As lively stone, they have been given the blessed hope, wherein there is no confusion, that is if the anointing which they have received continues to abide in them (Jh 2:27).
Vs 7 “Unto them, which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.” Here we see the opposite of the above verse, wherein they do not abide in the truth. They having rejected these wonderful truths, after much long suffering by the Holy Ghost to bring them to repentance, now stumble upon it, because God has blinded their eyes (Jh 12:40) lest they see and understand and be converted and he should heal them. Yes there is a point of no return, after much longsuffering (2 Pet 3:9), those once enlightened (Heb 6:4) will be cast into outer darkness (Mt 22:13). The ‘appointed unto’ is based upon the disobedient of those who have rejected the word and works of Jesus (Jh 14:11,12, Heb 10:29). This 'appoint unto' seem to carry the same idea that is spoke of in Romans 9:16, where unto Pharaoh was raised up to express God's Sovereign will in making one vessels unto honour and another to dishonour. If some of your good brethren could give me further insight on this it would be greatly appreciated. We might consider Ps 41:9 as it related to Ps 109:6. What is contained in Proverbs 31:8 and Psm 2:9? As stated, I need some understanding on this phrase.
Vs 9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” Yes there is a generation (Ps 22:30) seed, remnant that will not bow unto Baal (Rom 11:4). This is not because they are better than anyone else, but God in his providential power (Ps 110:3) has left us a seed (Rom 9:29) less the entire human race would be as Sodom. Mankind is like unto those of the time of Noah, yet by the grace (Gen 6:8) of God the remnant seed is preserved to give praise unto the God of all grace, while they sojourn here in time. God so to speak but a bridle (Isa 37:29) in the mouth of those so called and chosen to bear the truth here in this time world.
Vs 11 “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” The day of visitation, to my understanding would be the day in which we gather in the assembly, looking for our Husband to enter his chamber and bid us to come up hither. It is there that we are able to glorify God. The term ‘Dearly Beloved’ has reference to more that just a brother, but rather the term which indicates a marriage relation. Peter again refers to his listeners as strangers and pilgrims, for they are indeed such in a land which they do not call home. Peter the apostle to the Jews herein is beseeching the Jews to walk in such a way that the Gentiles although speak evil against their Jewish brethren, if indeed they have maintained good works then God will be glorified in the day of the assembly.
Vs 13 “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as Supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.” Peter herein is giving the Jewish brethren the same instruction that Paul does in Romans 13:1. God raises up and removes the rulers of our nation, as he desires, for the benefit of his church. If his people have devoured each other in a civil war, then he will open the door of their enemies, that they may learn to do those things pleasing in his sight.
Vs 15 “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: as free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.” Notice the term used here concerning his disciples. They are not an elite group as some have attempted to accuse me of promoting, but they are servants. Yes, even bond servants made willing by the providential care of a loving husband, as he continues to discipline then into loving obedience.
Vs 17 “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.” Simply put, as much as in us love all men, even if we suffer wrong. In doing so God will give us a way of escape as he did Daniel, and the three Hebrew children. We are told in Heb 12:15 “lest any root of bitterness springing up.” I know from experience that bitterness will eat the container. Let us pray that God will continue to give us the grace to overcome the opposition found not only in the world, but even among our own brethren.
Vs 21 “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” We are called to suffer for the sake of Christ, as good soldiers of the cross. We must realize that this only apply if we suffer for well doing and not for those things we have failed in keeping our selves from the lust of this world. Likewise we should be careful to maintain the bond of love among those of the household of faith.
Vs 25 “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” Peter tells us very plainly that if indeed God has a purpose for us here in this time world, that when we go astray he will as the shepherd bring us back into the fold, by his tender chastisement. We must also realize that God is longsuffering not willing that any should perish, but after must tender loving care will withdraw from those that refuse to turn back form their rebellious ways.

1 Peter 3
Vs 5 “For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” The above lesson seems to apply only if the wife is doing well, and not afraid of her husband. In which case it appears she is at liberty to leave her husband and remarry, but only in the Lord; that is, to marry a true believer.
Vs 7 “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” Here we have the other side of the story, wherein the wife is an unbeliever, and is admonished to dwell with her only in the truth, for if the wife chooses to leave, the husband is not under obligation to continue with the civil marriage covenant.
Vs 8 “Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.” This lesson is to the church as the brotherhood. We should live our church lives having compassion for one another, and be willing to give rather than receive. If we harbor bitterness in our hearts for another of the church members then we should not expect to receive the inheritance which is given to those of the brotherhood who have the love of Christ abiding in them.
Vs 10 “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.” This continues the thought of brotherly love to those in the church. Having said this we find in Rom 12:18 “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” Our tongues can created must harm to the cause of Christ and bring swift destruction upon a church who fails in this respect.
Vs 12 “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. Who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?” Having given us the lesson above, he then reminds us that as long as we are following after righteousness he will take care of us.
Vs 14 “But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” Even though this seem most unlikely, it never the less is true, for I have experienced both. I am afraid that I have not always given the answer with meekness and fear, but when I have the results, is amazing. The bottom line is that we show our love one to another and the God of all grace shall surely bless the church that attains unto this love.
Vs 17 “For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.” Jesus the man suffered in order that when we suffer, we might realize that we are not alone in the suffering, for our Husband also suffered likewise in well doing. If we can truly comprehend this, we then are willing to suffer also for the truth’s sake.
Vs 18 cont. “Being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient.” Jesus the man in his flesh was put to death, yet he himself gave up the ghost, for man could not take his spirit from him. Jesus’ body as the man was the sacrificial goat, was offered up (three hours of darkness, behind the vail) as the atonement sacrifice in the room and stead of all of God’s children. Jesus the man’s spirit, as the fit man, led the eternal soul (God being in Christ 2 Cor 5:19) into a land inhabited, hell itself, at which point the eternal forsook the son of man, wherein the entire family of Adam would have gone had not the Father devised means whereby the banished be not expelled (2 Sam 14:14). Being quickened by the spirit, he then preached the resurrection unto those imprisoned in the law, not able to understand how they were just before God (Job 9:2). Titus 3:3 ‘we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.’
Vs 20 “When once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” God has indeed suffered long with his people even those chosen (Isa 43:10) to bear witness to the truth. Gen 6:3 “My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty (120) years”. Yes God is a merciful and gracious God for he could have very well destroyed the entire race of Adam and started over, but Gen 6:8 tells us that ‘Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.’ Why? He has just stated that Gen 6:5 “GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” We also read both in the old and new Ps 53:3 ‘there is none that doeth good, no, not one Rom 3:12 there is none that doeth good, no, not one.’ Paul tells us in 1 Cor 15:10 ‘by the grace of God I am what I am.’ This is the case with any of God’s children that receive any good from God, or give anything good. Yes Noah was just as wicked as the rest of the people, but grace was extended unto him that the race of Adam may rise above the desires of the flesh and give praise unto their God.
Vs 21 “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” Peter tells us that this account of Noah was to demonstrate the value of the resurrection, and gives those called to the wedding feast an example to follow him through his death and resurrection. Peter is very plain in defining what baptism is for. It does not put away the filth (4509 rhupos ~ morally, depravity) of the Adamic flesh (1 Jh 2:16), which was corrupted in the fall; but rather an answer to the conscience, which prods us to turn away from the filth of this world and follow in his footsteps.
Vs 22 “Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.” We read in 1 Cor 15:27 “For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. … For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him that God may be all in all. Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?” Baptism in itself indicates not only a burial but also a raising from the dead, and if Jesus is not risen and reigning over his church bride, they why are we baptized in the name of one who is still dead and in the grave. He has risen and as those who are baptized in his name will continue to reign with him until the last enemy is destroyed, that is death.
Vs 24 “Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.” This brings up another point not recorded here in 1 Peter: what is meant by the statement 'being baptized for the dead'? Paul is making light of those who do not believe in the resurrection, by stating that if Jesus did not raise from the dead, then the baptismal service is a joke, saying how foolish would one be to practice the service if Jesus is yet in the grave.

1 Peter 4
Vs 3 “For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.” The 'us', in the sentence is speaking of Peter and his Jewish brethren, who in times past had walked liken unto the Gentiles in the flesh. Now these same Jewish brethren, in whom you walked, now criticize us for not walking with them now. Paul tells these same Jewish brethren in 2 Thess 1:4 “We ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them (Jews) that trouble you; and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints.” We see this same position recorded by Jesus in Mt 16:27 “The Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.”
Vs 6 “For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.” The dead under consideration herein is speaking of those who have sinned the sin unto death found in 1 Jh 5:17. See also Nu 15:30, Heb 6:4, and 10:29. Yes, one who has been given the two witnesses (His works and words Jh 9:41,14:11), and turned from them (Heb 6:4) have died to the fellowship of the saints, will be judged in the coming judgment upon the nation of Israel.
Vs 7 “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.” The end of the law worship is at hand (within fifteen year of this writing). Peter is herein admonishing these disciples to be sober as they terry for the coming destruction, wherein the temple will be destroyed.
Vs 8 “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Peter herein delivers unto these disciples a wonderful admonition in the benefits of serving Him. First of all charity, love does give the body the ability to forego many offences that would otherwise cause division in the body. He then reminds the assembly to be careful to exercise the gift which God has given each member of the body, because in doing so, it will not allow jealousy to destroy the fellowship of the body. He concludes that in doing so, God receives the glory and not the individual members of the body.
Vs 12 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” Peter here again tells these disciples who are suffering at the hands of their fellow countrymen (Jews), to not despair as though this was something strange, for they also did it to Jesus. If then they take it patiently they will understand when He comes with his Holy Angels to take vengeance upon those at whose hands they are suffering.
Vs 14 “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified; but let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.” Peter continues to inform these Jewish brethren that those who have rejected the council against themselves (Lk 7:30), and are now reproaching them in the same manner, that they should understand therefore that God is glorified. Be careful that you not fail because of this reproach, and become as they are.
Vs 16 “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” It is my understanding that this is the only place in the scriptures that uses the term Christian in reference to the disciples. It appears that Peter uses this term to emphasize the thought that Jesus Christ also suffered, so therefore be not ashamed, for God is glorified in this. The time is come, refers to the filling up of the iniquities of the nation of Israel (Gal 4:4). He came to his own, and informs them in the twenty-third chapter of Matthew of their condition, and in verses 34-38 he gave them a summery of the things he had against them. Peter than ask the question, ‘what shall the end of them be that obey not the gospel?’ Paul in answers this question in 2 Thess 1:6 “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.”
Vs 18 “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.” Peter concludes this chapter with a stern warning to those who have rejected the council against themselves (Lk 7:30). Then gives the suffering saints a reason for standing fast against these scoffers, for God is the faithful Creator, which one can rely upon in all things.

Study
I think history is very important and I enjoy reading some historical events when it is based on sound reasoning. In fact, the inspired word of God is our true and factual history book. It has been interesting and surprising to me that some men think they must go out to other men's writings to prove their personal applications of the inspired word of God.
The Lord taught in Isa. 1:18, "Let us reason together......” Notice He said "Let us", that is those of the faith. He didn't say go out and reason with certain other men to gain our support and to prove our doctrinal understandings. Paul told Timothy in 2 Tim. 2:15 to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Paul didn't say to study to prove ourselves to others, but study to shew ourselves approved unto God. Paul was referring to studying God's inspired word; not some man named Turtullian and his ideas or some other man's writing and beliefs.
If Paul was referring to other writings than the inspired word of God, then God's word is not a thorough furnisher and its own interpreter. Other men's writings would make God the author of confusion and we know this can't be true. Other men's writings do not always harmonize with God's revealed word. Mine may not either, so I ask all who read the things I have written to be as the Noble Bereaeans, and study the scriptures to see if these thing be so.
Scripture doesn't mention a man named Turtullian, but a man named Tertullus is mentioned in Acts 24:1, 2. This man Turtullus was an accuser and a prosecutor of Paul before Felix. Tertullian (155-230) denounced Christian doctrines he considered heretical, but later in life adopted views that themselves came to be regarded as heretical. He was the first great writer of Latin Christianity, thus sometimes known as the "Father of the Latin Church". Tertullian was a Romanized African. This man obviously, and according to history, was unstable in the word of God and certainly was not a true follower of Jesus in his day. Why would we even want to go search for a man of his unstable character to try to prove to God's people today their view on any doctrine of the true church?
I have noticed during my attempts in study with PB brethren during the last twenty years that there are some who have their own preconceived ideas of scriptural doctrine, and almost always go "out of the scriptures" for other men's ideas of doctrine, many of who were of worldly religions and not of the church of Jesus Christ, to try to gain support for their own positions. If not so serious, this type of an attempt to gain support would be laughable. But it is serious and reveals the weakness in man to lean on other men rather than the Holy Ghost for revelations in the scriptures. However, when a man doesn't believe he needs additional special spiritual revelation from heaven above in order to believe and understand the revealed word of God, he either leans on his own understanding for he doesn't know where else to go, so he goes out to other men's writings to gain their support for his doctrinal ideas. If the regenerated heart of Matthew 19:28 is not all that is needed to study and understand God's word, then there are lot's of preachers who are either not regenerated or they are using the wrong nature to study and understand God's word, because quite a few preachers have many different ideas and beliefs as to what certain scriptures teach.
The Apostle Paul said, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (Rom. 8:14) Paul also said, "For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;" (1 Cor. 12:8) I conclude that many men of God need to pray for the Spirit of God to commune with their regenerated heart in order to gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in the word of God. 1 John 1
Vs 1 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” ~ As in the forward John’s writings differ from all of the other gospels and epistle writers, inasmuch as his writings tend to emphasize the closeness of the disciples to their Lord (Jh 21:20, 1 Jh 2:20). Here we find the intimacy of them (from not before the beginning) in that they were touched by the fact that through him they could find fellowship with both the Father and the Son (son of man, their husband.
Vs 4 "And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full." ~ The purpose of this writing was to give the disciples the joy of feeling this closeness, and to understand how it came about as recorded in 2 Th 2:13 and 1 Jh 2:20. It is God the Father who hath chosen and betrothed those called to the wedding of the son of man, Jesus (Hos 2:19, Mt 22:14, Acts 2:47, Rom 8:28). It is the Holy Ghost that has administered the marriage covenant with the dealt faith, which defines the completed work of God as He was in Christ reconciling all of his family unto himself (2 Cor 5:19). Upon believing they are sealed with the Holy Ghost of promise (2 Cor 1:22, Gal 3:29, Eph 1:13, 4:30, Rev 7:4). After having been so sealed they cannot be deceived. Some may through pride fall away, but they do so presumptuously, and it they continues in teaching a false doctrine, after much longsuffering Jesus will cut they off as Jehovah did the Jews (Rom 11:10, Heb 6:4, 10:29).
Vs 5 "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie (John 8:44 ‘he is a liar, and the father of it’), and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood (as the Passover Lamb) of Jesus (the man) Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” ~ This epistle was also designed to give the disciple an understanding of the value of this closeness, for in this relationship was the understanding that the Passover blood provided a covering, insomuch as they were able to feel the cleansing power found in the covering. Remember this is forgiveness, covering, putting our sins in remission. It does not do away with our sins; simple puts them in remission, a position so they will not hinder our service to out Husband.
Vs 8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” ~ This verifies the position taken above, for we are reminded that we are all sinners, for there is none righteous, no not one, but the cleansing effect of the Passover blood availed in confessing that we are indeed sinners, thus providing the needed covering, wherein we are then able to worship our husband in an acceptable manner. The lesson is very clear that only those who see themselves as sinners have access to this covering; when one, as the Pharisee, denies the cleansing power of the Passover blood, having seen it (Mt 21:32), is cast out into outer darkness (Mt 7:23, Heb 10:29, Mt 22:13). This cleansing is not the eradication of our sins as that which is accomplished by the atoning blood, but simply a Passover covering so one can enter the bride’s chamber there to sup with their husband, the son of man Jesus. This lesson is portrayed in the Old Testament by the first two kings of Israel; that is where King Saul failed in his position as king in not following God’s instructions concerning the king of the Amalekites (1 Sam 15:15).
1 John 2
Vs 3 “And hereby we do know that we know him (as our husband), if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” ~ Simply put, those who have been betrothed to Jesus, in keeping his commandments, by adding (2 Pet 1:5) to the dealt faith of the new covenant and produce fruit unto righteousness. We have those who say they are keepers of the truth (Isa 4:1), yet the truth is not displayed, therefore they become liars. A good example of this is those who desire to be called Primitive Baptists yet are following after the false doctrine of perseverance. Again we see the example set froth above in King Saul and King David. Saul is lifted up in self-righteousness, and David is humbled by his sin against his God.
Vs 5 “But who so keepeth his word (truth), in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” ~ The perfection under consideration herein is that of the basic truth of the church. Yes if indeed we desire to be truthful to the cause of Christ, we must walk in truth. Notice how John continues to bring this thought to the forefront. As stated at the outset of this epistle, he is talking unto those who are walking in the truth, and even goes to the extent of calling those who have been so blessed with the new covenant truth, yet do not his commandments, are lying after their father the devil. It is these that are considered to be antichrist (vs 19). This is not saying they are not children of God, only that they are denying the truth, which has been established by the two witnesses: the law written upon their hearts, and the preaching of the gospel in the power of the Holy Ghost.
Vs 7 “Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word, which ye have heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.” ~ This commandment is from the beginning, not before the beginning. This commandment is the truth as it is abiding in those chosen unto salvation here in time. (2 Th 2:13). The beginning has reference to the day of Pentecost, when the disciples were endued with power from on high. That is, as the Holy Ghost administered the new covenant dealt faith (Rom 12:3) to those chosen to receive it, being only called, and within the called there is the chosen remnant (Mt 22:14, Lk 12:32, Rom 8:28, 9:7,29, 11:4). The darkness of the old law is now passing away and the light of the new covenant is been administered unto the betrothed bride of Christ. This changing of the law continued to fade until it was done away with in seventy AD. At that time the bride’s chamber was fully furnished having came into maturity with the completion of the New Testament, and the ending of the sign gifts, and ushering in of the new heaven (upper room, or brides chamber) and new earth of the organized church (Rev 21:1), the New Testament being completed and the sign gifts ceases. Although he hath made all things new (5), yet those called to this service must overcome the false teachings to continue as the faithful bride of Christ, yet some (Isa 37:29) as the chosen remnant will overcome. In verse eight we are informed that those who fail in their faithfulness will be cast out into outer darkness; those who have tasted the sweetness (Heb 6:4) of the gospel, good news of the completed work of atonement, and turned from it, will experience the torment of the second death. The first resurrection is that wherein one has been delivered from the darkness of the old law service and if they turn back unto it, become dead (Rom 11:15) to the joys which they have experienced under grace: they have sinned the sin unto death.
Vs 9 “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.” ~ Again the darkness is of the law, for those under it given the opportunity would persecute the true believer (2 Thess 3:2 ~ ‘we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith’. If the law of the land would allow, these under the work systems world by force compel the true believers to submit unto their set of rules. Most who believe in some works for eternal salvation, believe if you do not submit to their god, whether it is Allah, Budda, or Jesus, then you will go to hell?
Vs12 “I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father (in love). I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.” ~ The older men of John’s time would have known Jesus as John did from the beginning (Pentecost). The middle age is given the faith spoken of in 5:4, which is able to overcome the false teachings of the world. The little ones are not able to understand the true doctrines, yet have the love (Gal 5:22) of the Father abiding in them.
Vs 15 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” Here John gives those of a muturity a strong admonition to be strong as he has stated in the above verses. The world will throw strong temptations your way, so be strong and overcome the fleshly desire to be like others; do not succumb to the desires of the flesh are even the eyes (Mt 5:28), nor strive in excess to accumulate worldly wealth which will perish. John continues to admonish the disciples to stand strong in the faith once delivered to the saints, for in it only can one find the peace that passeth understanding.
Vs 17 “And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.” ~ This is a timely admonition to remain faithful to the truth for the old law world is passing away. Matt 6:19 “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.” Heb 11:26 “They are greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for Moses had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” Yes there are indeed great rewards in one’s service unto their blessed husband Jesus Christ.
Vs 18 “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us, for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.” ~ Not going to be, but it is the last time. That is, it was nearing the end of the old Jewish economy, wherein the law service would come to an end. The church then having come to maturity with the end of the sign gifts, and the cannons completed, Jesus would come with his holy angels to deliver his bride from the destruction of the Roman army and usher in the new heaven and earth. Those who went out did not have the unction of the Holy One; that is, they were not in possession of the new covenant faith, which is the witness from within (4:15).
Vs 20 “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.” ~ If one does not have the new covenant, which testifies, to the truth, then the false teachers will lead them astray. In order to be sealed one must have the two witnesses. That of the law written upon the heart, and the preached gospel (Jh 6:27, 2 Cor 1:22, Eph 1:13, 4:30, Rev 7:3).
Vs 22 “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.” ~ Can a person be called a liar if he is not knowledgeable of the truth? A person can not perjury himself unless he knows what the truth is. If one is not speaking the truth because of the false evidence presented to them, not realize it, he is considered to be in error (Nu 15:22, Heb 9:7). If he knows the truth, and denies it, he is considered a liar, because the thoughts he is promoting is presumptuous, willingly (Nu 15:30, 2 Pet 3:5). Those to whom Jesus came to in Jh 1:11 and received him not, were liars. (See Mt 21:32, Lk 7:30, Jh 8:24).
Vs 24 “Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.” ~ What is it that we have heard from the beginning? Remember the beginning herein referred to is the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:38 “Ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” John 7:39 “They that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified.” John 14:26 “The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things (Rom 8:28, 1 Jh 2:20) and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 20:22 “He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose so ever sins ye remit, they are remitted (so they will not hinder ones service to their Husband, Jesus) unto them; and whose so ever sins ye retain (Acts 5:4), they are retained.” This power is that which was promised to them in Lk 24:49, 2 Th 1:11. Here in John 20, Jesus breathed on the apostles and they received the Holy Ghost, but we are told that the Holy Ghost would not come until Jesus had accended. We need to understand just what is involved in the giving of the Holy Ghost. With the above scriptures we get the idea that it is the ability to understand the finished work, (which was accomplished on the cross), is this power. If this be true, then what the apostles received in John 20 could not have been the full revelation, which was to come. The Holy Ghost is the administrator of the new covenant, wherein is defined the basic doctrines of the true church. After the accession of Jesus, the apostles were the only ones who were given the ability to lay hands on one (Acts 8:18) so they would receive (understanding of the truth) the Holy Ghost, latter to be the administration by the Holy Ghost in the form of the new covenant. If you will notice, for one to continue in the Son, he must have that which was from the beginning remain in them. It is the promise given to Abraham that a seed of (Isaac) Jesus would be given unto the remnant. This seed is also known as Jesus Christ himself, which being as one with the bride, would also include her. This seed is also referred to as ‘even eternal life’, which one must retain in order to abide in the vine. How is it that one loses this eternal life? Prov 16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Heb 6:6 “Seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” Heb 10:29 “Hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the (Passover) blood of the (new) covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, (2 Th 2:13) an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?” Yes one can, after having so great a blessing to be a part of the little flock, act in such a way as to become a castaway. This is not speaking of the practice of the church as was the case of King David, but a forsaking of the true doctrines, as was the case of King Saul. Fuller, as well as Harris and Bradley were guilty of such. Having gone out willingly, after a space of repentance is given, God will blind their eyes to the truth as he did the rulers of the Jews (Jh 12:40).
Vs 26 “These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” John herein is giving a warning to those who would be seduced by the false teachers and follow after them to the point they also become castaways. Those blessed to be called and sanctified to the truth must abide faithful unto it, less they fail in their discipleship.
Vs 28 “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.” Mt 25:6 “Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.” How is it that one abides in him? By studying to show himself approved as a disciple. When the bride’s husband comes to his chamber, he peradventure will invite us to come and dine. Having done so, our confidence is increased to know that we are as one with him; that is, we have been blessed to lean upon his breast and experience the marriage relationship ~ what a glorious thought. Rev 9/2/09 Allen Cook
1 John 3
Vs 2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” Beloved, as stated is an enduring term used as the wife of a faithful husband. Now those who are the firstfruits are embraced in the arms of our beloved. This indeed is impossible for one such as I to think he would peradventure invite me too dine with him in his chamber. Being blessed with this hope even brings us to the purity found in our husband, Jesus. I say that which is found in our Husband, for within us there is nothing good, let alone pure. I am made to think of the song in the harp ‘Purer in Heart Oh Lord, make me to be’.
Vs 4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.” ~ Where there is no law there can be no sin charged. We find this was the case in Rom 5:13 from Adam to Moses, yet men died because of their sin nature. God was (2 Cor 2:19) manifested in the flesh (in the man Jesus) to take away our sins. This took place in the three hours of darkness upon the cross. The phrase, ‘in him is no sin’ has reference to Jesus and while we are dining, abiding in him we are without sin. No man can have a continual abiding in him, but for a little while when we meet in the assembly, he peradventure will open to us his bride’s chamber and invite us to dine with him. It is in this position that we are without sin, because Satan can not enter there (Isa 33:21). When we are walking in the flesh (Rom 8:1) he is not with us, for we will not find him as long as we are in the flesh. John admonishes us to walk in the light, so ‘as much as is in me’ I am ready to serve my LORD and master Jesus Christ. Yes it is he that worketh in me the will and the to do of his good pleasure. My prayer is that I will be ready to work out what he has worked in me, and continue to work at crucifying this flesh.
Vs 8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” ~ It is no question in our minds that if we are engaged in the sins of this flesh we are following in the ways, which the devil delights in. As state above this is the very reason for God being manifested in the flesh; that is, to destroy the works of the devil. Then why oh why do we yet live after the flesh? It is simply that I am not abiding in him. Birth what is it, and what is involved in it? We do not agree with those who say that you can kill a baby in the womb, for it is not yet a child. This may be lengthy but we need to get the setting of the events evolved in the birth of a child. Look at the scriptures and you tell me what is involved in the birth of a child. Matt 1:18 ‘she was found with child.’ Matt 1:21 ‘she shall bring forth a son.’ Matt 2:1 ‘when Jesus was born in Bethlehem.’ Matt 19:12 ‘They were so born from their mother's womb.’ Luke 2:11 ‘There is born this day in the city of David a Saviour.’ John 3:5 ‘Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter.’ John 16:21 ‘as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.’ 1 Cor 15:8 ‘one born out of due time.’ Gal 4:19 ‘I travail in birth.’ Heb 11:23 ‘when Moses was born, was hid three months.’1 John 2:29 ‘every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.’ Rev 12:2 ‘She being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.’ Rev 12:4 ‘the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.’ Now lets look at the other words, which must first take place before birth. For one to be born, they must be brought forth from the womb. Matt 1:20 ‘fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.’ Luke 1:36 ‘Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her.’ Luke 2:21 ‘Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.’ Rom 9:10 ‘Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac.’ In verse 11 this event is following verse 10, ‘the children being not yet born.’ What more can I say? Conception gives life; and birth, or being born, gives light to the life that already exist. Now lets go back to our text ‘Whosoever is born of God’. Those who have been conceived (regenerated Mt 19:28) by the dealt faith of the new covenant, hath the seed of Christ in them. In 1 Peter 1:3 we find this statement, He has, “begotten us again unto a lively hope”. This is not the beginning of Peter’s sonship as a child of God, but when he was sanctified to the truth, having the seed of Christ implanted within them. Peter further defines this in verse 23, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word (logos) of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” If you will notice the word (logos) is not capitalized here as in Jh 1:1. Why? It is because it is the seed of Christ, not Christ himself. Just as the husband of a woman is able to quicken to life the egg in the womb of the mother, so the Holy Ghost quickens the life in the womb of the law (Ps 110:3, Gal 1:13, Eph 2:1, 13). It is the seed of Christ, for wisdom (Pr ch 8 - Holy Ghost) is justified of her children (Lk 7:35), which is the mother of us all (Gal 4:26). This is the seed spoken of in Gen 15:13, Ps 22:30, Isa 1:9, Rom 9:29, Gal 3:16, which cannot sin, nor lie (1 Jh 2:27), nor be deceived (Mt 24:22,24), for it is the seed of Christ in you. It is also called an anointing (2:27), or unction of the Holy One (2:20). The manifestation of this defines who is born, brought to light, and those who are yet in the darkness of the spiritual womb, or work systems of the world. Both groups are children of God and have been conceived by the fruit of the spirit and able to discern between good and evil. Yet the flesh is always present, but only those who have been brought forth to light are able to manifest themselves as the true ‘sons of God.’ If the laws of the land did not prevent those under the work systems from persecuting (2 Thes 3:2) the true believers, they would, as history has shown us. If one has this testimony in them, and is following after the works of the flesh, he is manifesting himself as a liar or a child of the devil. John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth (manifested) in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” Yes only one who has this (new covenant faith) testimony in him, can be declared a liar. He is manifesting the opposite of what the witness within is testifying to him. During the ministry of Jesus his works and words were the witnesses. In the early church they had the sign gifts and the written word as the two witnesses. Since the completion of the cannons and the closing of the sign gifts, we now have the law written in the heart and the preaching of the word in the power of the Holy Ghost as the two witnesses.
Vs 11 “For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.” ~ Again we must keep the lesson in context as John is writing to the beloved bride of Jesus, for we see the lesson is about those that, from the beginning, understand their relationship with their husband. We are told that as much as ye have did it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (Mt 25:40). Most of Adam’s race is looking out for self, and do not take time to help others, unless it is to their benefit, or they are attempting to flee the wrath to come (Mt 3:7, Lk 3:7). The worldly system hates the true disciples (2 Thes 3:2). We live in a society that is much different than that found in the rest of the world. In other words, Cain could represent most of mankind. Question, am I saying that those who act as Cain can be a child of God? If not for the marvelous grace of God we would all be like unto Balaam and Core (Jude 11). It is not in me to determine who is and who is not a child of God.
Vs 14 “We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” The word brethren/brother is used throughout this lesson, and must be referring to those who are following Jesus, in spirit and truth. If a church member is having a problem with another church member he is not abiding in the husband, the man Jesus. What more should be said?
Vs 17 “But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?" The lesson continues as above, that is defining what is true discipleship, and no one else is included in the lesson. Gal 6:10 “Let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
Vs 18 “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight." Truth is the key word in the lesson. If one is not striving to keep the faith, then he can not be included in the lesson.
Vs 23 “And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” The Spirit again goes back to 2:20 in reference to the ability to worship him in spirit and truth (Jh 4:24). In order to dwell, abide in him, we must be holding, ‘the faith’ in a pure conscience. 2 Cor 4:2 “By manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.”
